Position: Asset Management Consultant (Water/Wastewater)

Position Overview

Arcadis is seeking a Part‑time (30 hours/week) Asset Management Consultant to join our Resilience Water Team and work on a variety of engagements with our Asset Management practice nationally. This role can be based in our Hanover, MD;
Virginia Beach, VA; or Arlington, VA offices.

The Asset Management Consultant will have experience with delivery of asset management projects for the water and wastewater utility industry and a comprehensive understanding of industry‑accepted asset management tools and techniques, including asset management planning, gap assessments, asset inventory, condition and risk assessments, life‑cycle cost analysis, O&M programs, and capital investment planning.

The chosen candidate can expect to work independently and as part of teams staffed with management consultants, IT professionals, engineers, and scientists from various backgrounds. Strong technical and non‑technical skills, persuasive communication, and the talent for establishing solid relationships with both internal and external stakeholders are essential.

Role Accountabilities
  • Support the development and implementation of asset management plans and programs. Some travel may be required for project site visits, client meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Collaborate with others to analyze utilities’ operational business processes and decision support system solutions.
  • Perform consulting tasks associated with business process analysis, asset registers/inventories, condition and risk assessment, and repair and renewal needs.
  • Analyze utility GIS, maintenance, and condition assessment data to support inspection and planning programs.
  • Evaluate utility asset management activities, including inventories, technology support condition and remaining useful life, repair and renewal needs, and cost projections.
  • Provide recommendations for improved O&M practices and supporting technology to minimize asset life‑cycle costs.
  • Improve the effectiveness of asset management technology support with master plans, business process improvement, data integration, and associated technology applications.
  • Assist in preparing asset management documentation such as asset management plans, strategic asset management plans, standard operating procedures, level of service documentation, etc.
Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications
  • 7 years of consulting experience with an environmental engineering or management consulting firm, or equivalent experience with a municipal utility.
  • B.S. in Engineering, Management Information Systems, or Engineering Management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • IAM, PE and/or PMP certifications preferred with experience in GIS, Business Intelligence (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau), CMMS, or other asset management decision‑support platforms.
  • Experience as a Project Manager and proficiency with Microsoft Project.
  • Exceptional communication skills and experience influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team with strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.

Actual salaries vary by experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
