Job Description
WSP is seeking a Bridge Inspection Team Leader, Senior Structural Engineer to join our Bridge & Infrastructure Inspection Team in Virginia, with offices in Richmond, VA and Virginia Beach, VA. This role is ideal for a professional who is new to people leadership and is interested in advancing to a Team Leader position.
Impact- Lead the Bridge, Tunnel & Ancillary Inspections team on a variety of inspection-related projects.
- Perform professional structural engineering work and inspections.
- Assist in the preparation of Bridge & Tunnel Load Ratings.
- Create plans and sketches using AutoCAD.
- Coordinate cross‑functional teams to execute project work.
- Mentor entry‑level engineers.
- Support engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
- Conduct project research, field work, preliminary design calculations, and analysis.
- Assist in preparing cost proposals and scope of work documents.
- Collect and maintain project documentation.
- Complete training on assignment‑specific tasks.
- Keep current with latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company resources.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
- Nationally Certified Bridge Inspector (NCBI) certification, current and valid.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in bridge, tunnel or ancillary inspection, design, or related infrastructure work.
- Engineer in Training Certification (PE Preferred).
- Proficient knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, and design/build application.
- Demonstrated interest in structures, transportation, or related fields with a strong desire to advance skills.
- Physically capable of continuous field work, including working at heights, in close quarters, climbing, carrying ladders and gear, adverse weather, night work, around moving vehicles, etc.
- Position allows up to 50% field work and 50% office work.
- Valid driver’s license and successful Motor Vehicle Record Check.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills for both engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team members.
- Advanced proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and technology tools.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, and anti‑harassment policies.
- Flexibility to work schedules that support project needs, possibly beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel, including potential overnight stays, may be required.
- Professional Engineer Certification.
- Completed NHI Non‑Redundant Steel Tension Members (NSTM) course.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Active membership in local professional practice organizations.

Expected Salary (all locations): $107,600–$159,800. This range represents the compensation that WSP USA believes it might pay for this position based on the applicant’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.
