Transportation Roadway Engineer

Overview

Insight Global is seeking a Transportation Engineer to support roadway design projects across multiple stages of the project lifecycle. This individual will work within CAD platforms, with a preference for Bentley Micro Station Open Roads Designer (Civil 3D experience is also acceptable with a willingness to learn ORD). The engineer will be responsible for developing roadway design models and construction plan sets, supporting project delivery, and collaborating closely with project managers and team members to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and deliverables.

Depending on experience level, responsibilities may also include project leadership, client coordination, and mentorship of junior staff.

• Develop roadway design models and construction plan sets using CAD platforms (Bentley Open Roads Designer preferred; Civil 3D experience acceptable with willingness to learn ORD).
• Support project delivery and collaborate with project managers and team members to align on scope, schedule, and deliverables.
• Depending on experience, provide project leadership, client coordination, and mentorship of junior staff.
• Contribute to design for VDOT and local municipality initiatives, including intersection improvements, corridor and streetscape enhancements, multi-use trail design, pedestrian improvements, alternative intersection configurations (e.g., RCUTs), and ITS structure replacements.
• Participate in regular coordination meetings and manage ownership/technical complexity as you grow within the organization.

• Strong technical proficiency in roadway design and modeling; knowledge of DOT standards and highway design principles; experience developing project cost estimates.
• Experience with drainage design, grading, traffic engineering, and water resource BMPs is preferred but not required.
• Self-starter, collaborative, growth-oriented, and interested in a long-term career with opportunities for technical and project leadership.
• Modeling experience for roadway/highway design in CAD, preferably Open Roads Designer (ORD);
  Civil 3D acceptable with willingness to learn ORD.
• General understanding of roadway/highway design standards, specifications, cost estimating; familiarity with AASHTO Green Book, DOT standards, MUTCD.
• Licensed EIT or PE; ability to mentor junior staff; ability to manage multiple priorities (3+ tasks); strong communication skills with potential client-facing role; demonstrated initiative through involvement in professional organizations.
• Experience with drainage design, grading, traffic engineering, and BMPs.
