Transportation Engineer

Insight Global is seeking a Transportation Engineer to support roadway design projects across multiple stages of the project lifecycle. This individual will develop roadway design models and construction plan sets using Bentley Micro Station Open Roads Designer (ORD), with Civil 3D experience also considered for candidates willing to learn ORD. Responsibilities include supporting project delivery, coordinating with project managers and design teams, and ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, and deliverables.

Depending on experience, this role may also include project leadership, client interaction, and mentorship of junior staff. Project work includes a diverse mix of VDOT and local municipality initiatives, including roadway intersection improvements, corridor and streetscape enhancements, multi-use trails, pedestrian facilities, alternative intersections such as RCUTs, and ITS structure replacements. Working within a collaborative team this individual will typically support one to two projects at a time while gaining increasing technical responsibility and ownership.

Success in this role requires strong roadway design and modeling experience, knowledge of DOT standards and highway design principles, and the ability to develop project cost estimates. Experience with drainage design, grading, traffic engineering, and stormwater BMPs is preferred but not required. We are seeking a collaborative, self-motivated engineer who is interested in long-term professional growth and expanding technical and project management responsibilities.

This position offers exposure to both Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build projects across Virginia, including several high-profile trail and transportation improvement initiatives. In addition to design and delivery responsibilities, the engineer will have opportunities to collaborate with VDOT on policy development, program initiatives, and early-stage project planning, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys project variety, client engagement, and meaningful impact on transportation infrastructure.

Compensation is determined based on several factors, including relevant experience, skills, certifications, and overall qualifications. The anticipated pay range for this position is $40.00-$95.00 per hour.
