Harris Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer, Electrical in Norfolk, VA. This role is responsible for supporting the design, sustainment, and continuous improvement of electrical and electronic products used in naval shipboard communication and navigation products. This role focuses on obsolescence management, printed circuit board (PCB) redesigns, development of production test equipment, and engineering support for manufacturing operations.
Essential Functions:
- Work closely with design engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and production teams to ensure products remain manufacturable, reliable, and compliant with customer and military requirements.
- Manage electronic component obsolescence by identifying at-risk components, evaluating replacement options, and implementing engineering solutions to maintain product availability.
- Design, update, troubleshoot, and maintain production and engineering test fixtures used for manufacturing, qualification, and acceptance testing.
- Perform PCB respins to address component obsolescence, design improvements, manufacturability enhancements, and defect corrections while maintaining form, fit, and function.
- Create and modify electrical schematics, PCB layouts, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation.
- Support root cause investigations and corrective actions for electrical failures encountered during production and testing.
- Develop and execute verification and validation testing for PCB revisions and test fixture modifications.
- Generate and maintain engineering change orders (ECOs), bills of materials (BOMs), assembly drawings, and technical documentation.
- Provide technical support to production personnel and assist in resolving manufacturing issues in a timely manner.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, cost reduction, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related engineering discipline and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
5+ years of experience in electrical engineering within a manufacturing environment. - Experience with PCB design, schematic capture, and board-level troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of electronic components, component lifecycle management, and obsolescence mitigation.
- Experience designing or modifying production test fixtures and automated test equipment.
- Familiarity with engineering documentation, BOM management, and engineering change processes.
- Proficiency using electronic CAD tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, Cadence, or similar software.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Experience supporting military, defense or other highly regulated manufacturing industries.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Testability (DFT), and IPC standards.
- Experience with microcontroller-based designs.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience supporting military qualification testing and environmental testing.
