Maritime Network Engineer

Owen Daniels is proud to partner with a leading USV manufacturer for maritime defense and commercial applications. They are an established global business, expanding operations to Virginia Beach.

As part of this expansion, they are looking for an Experienced Engineer with expertise in networking, communication and electronic systems.

• Design and architect resilient network and communications systems for autonomous maritime platforms, spanning onboard, platform-to-platform, and remote control environments
• Implement, configure, and integrate network infrastructure including comms bearers, routing/switching hardware, VPNs, firewalls, and virtual gateways
• Engineer for resilience and availability, considering bandwidth, latency, coverage, interference, and failover scenarios
• Diagnose and resolve complex network and communications issues across hardware, software, and RF/network layers
• Support integration and commissioning of network and communications systems on operational vessels
• Manage operational, safety, and security constraints, ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and cybersecurity requirements
• Translate operational requirements into technical network and communications solutions
• Develop and maintain configuration baselines, technical documentation, and system diagrams
• Work across multi-disciplinary engineering teams, integrating networking with autonomy, C2, sensors, and navigation systems

• Strong practical knowledge of IP networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, DHCP, DNS, NAT, multicast)
• Experience with wireless/radio communications - MANET, point-to-point, cellular, satellite, and/or maritime systems
• Understanding of RF fundamentals (antenna selection, link budgets, propagation, interference, spectrum)
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and network management systems
• Understanding of cybersecurity principles - network segmentation, access control, encryption, monitoring
• Experience in safety-critical, security-sensitive, or regulated engineering environments
• Familiarity with maritime operational environments and their challenges (saltwater, vibration, RF interference)
• Ability to work in maritime and field environments
