Security Specialist

Responsibilities

• Responsible for physical, personnel, and information security for three shore commands, five ships, and a variety of detachments located around the world.
• Oversee and manage the security requirements for classified programs.
• Advise program managers on implementation of security policies and standards of classified programs to ensure compliance of proper security application.
• Develop, staff, and publish command security policies and procedures within the framework of Federal, Department of Defense, Department of Navy, and other military services policies and procedures.
• Conduct preliminary access interviews and prepare, coordinate, and submit requests for security access to the appropriate adjudicative authorities.
• Provide guidance to command personnel on foreign disclosure and release of documents outside of the Intelligence Community (IC).

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• Eligible for E‑Verify employment verification check.
• Must obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance and access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
• Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.
• Must acknowledge in writing that you are accepting an appointment in the DCIPS (excepted service) which does not confer competitive status, prior to appointment.
• Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• All Defense Intelligence positions under the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) are in the excepted service by specific statute, 10 U.S.C. 1601.
• This position requires a periodic polygraph examination.
• This position may require a two‑year DCIPS trial period requirement.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
• This position is part of the Department of Defense (DoD) Security Professional Educational Development (SPeD) certification program. You are required to obtain the Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) certification within two years of placement in the position and maintain the certification as long as you remain in the position.
• You are required to obtain the Special Program Security Credential within two years of placement in the position and maintain the certification as long as you remain in the position.
• This position may require rotating shift‑work and/or occasional overtime.

• At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GG/GS-12 grade level in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
• Perform security indoctrinations and educational briefings for qualified individuals.
• Coordinate and perform functions involved in the development, evaluation, implementation, or execution of information security programs.
• Manage specialized security programs designed to detect and prevent hostile intelligence penetration.
• Protect sensitive operations, activities, services, and classified information from exposure to threats and vulnerabilities.
• Utilize policy expertise to implement localized security procedures and deliver expert security education training.
