Position: DATABASE/WEB SERVICES ADMIN SPEC LVL III

Job Summary

Administers mission critical databases and web services in a high availability environment, providing 24x7 support services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Creates databases, installs and administers Oracle database engine and related web server software (Oracle Application Server, Apache, Tomcat, Web Logic, Web Sphere) on IBM AIX, Linux, and Windows operating systems.
  • Applies database and web server patches as necessary.
  • Creates and maintains configuration files.
  • Configures JAVA and PHP components for form and content delivery.
  • Installs SSL and certificate authentication on servers and databases using Advanced Security; implements access security including encryption.
  • Deploys EAR and WAR files for application updates and upgrades.
  • Configures databases and web servers to support application software while keeping them compliant with defined standards.
  • Monitors performance of UNIX, Linux, and Windows based Oracle and SQL Server database engines.
  • Implements and executes database backup and recovery methodologies.
  • Performs routine maintenance to ensure databases and web services are accessible and data is accurate.
  • Creates and maintains database administration scripts using Unix shell and SQL.
  • Writes and maintains system documentation according to established standards.
  • Works on multiple projects concurrently and meets deadlines.
  • Applies Information Security/Information Assurance policies and STIG/PCI requirements to databases and web servers.
  • Creates database partitions.
  • Administers additional databases such as SQL Server and Netezza as required.
  • Implements and tests high availability and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Provides technical support for crashes or failures, recovering or restoring data as necessary.
  • Provides after‑hours support for databases and web servers for upgrades, roll‑outs, and production issue resolution.
  • Monitors growth trends for databases and coordinates environment requirements with Unix and SAN administrators.
  • Assists in capacity planning for new and existing databases and web services.
  • Evaluates database and web management tools and provides recommendations.
  • Supports multiple development teams simultaneously, providing technical support to users and developers.
  • Works independently or as part of a team.
  • Provides on‑call 24x7 support for all databases and web servers on a rotating basis.
Additional Duties

Perform other duties as assigned.

Certification Requirements
  • IA Certification:
    Security+, GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC), SCNP, SSCP, or higher level certifications such as CISA, CISSP, GSE, SCNA (NEXCOM preferred: Security+).
  • Technical Certification:
    Oracle Admin Certified Associate. Alternatively, completion of IZO‑047 Oracle Database SQL Expert and IZO‑052 Oracle Database 11g Administration Workshop 1 Release 2 with passing assessment scores.
  • Non‑certified candidates must obtain required certifications within six months of appointment, or the employment will be terminated.
Qualifications
  • Minimum three years of progressive experience in database and/or web services technical support, including full spectrum of database and web server software support.
  • Experience in monitoring, optimizing, and administering databases and web servers.
  • Knowledge of upgrade methodologies and performance optimization.
  • Experience configuring web services server farms to support high‑volume web support capability.
  • Backup and recovery skills with understanding of high‑availability and fail‑over technologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, written and oral communication, interpersonal and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently or within a team.
Preferred Experience
  • Oracle Application Server, Apache, Tomcat, Web Logic.
  • Configuration of JAVA and PHP components for form and content delivery.
  • Installation of SSL and certificate authentication on servers and databases with Advanced Security.
  • Deployment of EAR and WAR files for application updates and upgrades.
  • Support for multiple development teams as a technical resource.
