Job Title: CNC Operator II
Department: Machine Shop & Fabrication
Pay: Hourly, DOE
We are seeking a skilled CNC Operator II to support our Machine Shop with intermediate-level machining responsibilities. The CNC Operator II is expected to perform machine setups independently, operate CNC Mills and Lathes, inspect parts to established tolerances, and assist with basic troubleshooting. This role bridges the gap between entry-level operation and advanced programming, offering opportunities to grow into CAD/CAM programming and higher-level machinist roles.
Our Machine Shop operates HAAS CNC Mills, a HAAS Mini-Mill, and a HAAS CNC Lathe. S&S Precision utilizes PTC Creo for CAD/CAM programming.

- Thursday, 7:00am- 4:15pm & Friday 7:00am - 12:00pm (Overtime Available)

Responsibilities:
- Performs complete setups on CNC Mills and CNC Lathes, including loading tools, setting work offsets, verifying programs, and ensuring proper work holding.
- Operates CNC equipment safely and efficiently to produce quality parts to engineering specifications.
- Uses precision measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges) to verify part conformity.
- Maintains required tolerances, typically within (+/–) .001”, and tighter when instructed.
- Identifies machining issues such as tool wear, poor surface finishes, or holding inconsistencies and communicates findings to senior machinists or engineers.
- Assists Machinists and Engineers with prototype work, fixturing adjustments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Follows established QC procedures, documents inspection results, and reports any non-conforming materials or equipment concerns.
- Helps maintain and update setup sheets and work instructions as directed.
- Supports a safe work environment and follows all company safety standards and procedures.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area and assists with general shop upkeep.
Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of CNC machining experience operating CNC Mills and Lathes.
- Demonstrated experience performing part setups with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T symbols, and CAD models.
- Familiarity with tool offsets, work coordinate systems, speeds and feeds, and general machining practices.
- Experience using precision measuring tools for in-process and final inspection.
- Basic understanding of CAD/CAM workflows; exposure to PTC Creo preferred but not required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Mathematical competency including basic geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs safely and maneuver material throughout the shop.
- Ability to stand for extended periods while operating machines.
