Your Opportunity

The Herff Jones Production team is looking for a Machine Operator to join our team in Virginia Beach, VA. This is a regular full-time position with benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, 401(k), paid time off, and additional voluntary benefits.

Shift

Standard shift is 6:00am – 2:45pm, Monday through Friday. Hours may fluctuate to ten- or twelve-hour days during peak season, including Saturdays and Sundays if necessary due to customer demand. Seasons vary from January through May.

As a member of our production team, you will work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment supporting the creation and distribution of diploma frames. Your focus will be on quality and safety, with strong teamwork and willingness to jump in to help as needed. A strong attention to detail is essential.

First 30 Days – What We Want You to Accomplish:

• Read detailed work orders to determine setup specifications and efficiently set up your assigned machine.
• Learn to operate a variety of machines (cutting machinery, fastening equipment, measuring tools, stamping machines) safely and effectively to produce diploma frames.

First 60 Days:

• Ability to initiate trial runs to verify accuracy of machine setup without supervision.

First 90 Days:

• Observe and monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions and determine if adjustments are needed.

• Maintain a safe and productive work environment.
• Assist in the production and distribution of the product.
• Perform all assigned work effectively and on schedule.
• Record any quality or scrap issues.
• Notify supervisor or manager of any issues that arise during the shift.
• Notify management of any safety concerns or quality issues.
• Be a team player with a can-do attitude when other duties are assigned based on business demand.

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Previous success in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated success in going above and beyond to help the team achieve a goal.
• Previous success maintaining a strong attendance and on-time record.

Daily activities include lifting, carrying, sitting, grasping, reaching, standing, kneeling, walking, bending, twisting; reading and simple math; standing on a fatigue mat during a long shift; regularly lifting/moving up to 50 lbs; and a moderate to above moderate noise level in the work environment.
