Lead Welding Trainer
The Lead Welding Trainer serves as ASC's subject matter expert and leader for welding training, certification, and workforce development initiatives across all facilities. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving welding training programs that ensure all welders are trained, certified, and consistently performing to ASC and AWS standards.
The ideal candidate is an experienced welding professional with strong leadership, instructional, and coaching abilities. This position plays a critical role in advancing workforce capability, improving product quality, reducing defects and rework, and supporting operational excellence through hands-on training, performance management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Success in this role will be measured by:
- Welder Certification Compliance:
Maintenance of current welding certifications and qualification requirements across the workforce. - Training Effectiveness:
Successful completion of training programs and measurable improvements in welder competency and performance. - Quality Performance:
Reduction in weld defects, rework, repair rates, and quality-related nonconformances. - Workforce Development:
Development of welding skills, advancement of employee capability, and identification of future welding talent. - Safety Performance:
Adherence to welding safety standards and achievement of safe work practices throughout operations. - Continuous Improvement:
Implementation of process improvements that enhance welding consistency, productivity, and quality.
What We're Looking For:
- Proven welding expertise in MIG, TIG, FCAW, and/or other applicable welding processes.
- Minimum of five (5) years of welding experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment.
- Demonstrated experience training, coaching, mentoring, or leading welding personnel.
- Strong knowledge of AWS welding codes, standards, certification requirements, and qualification procedures.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and instructional skills.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across departments and facilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and training documentation systems.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and/or Certified Welding Educator (CWE) preferred.
- Manufacturing and sheet metal fabrication experience preferred.

Physical & Work Requirements:
- Ability to work in both office and industrial manufacturing environments.
- Frequent exposure to welding operations, machinery, noise, fumes, and varying temperatures within manufacturing facilities.
- Required use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to all company safety procedures.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform hands-on training activities for extended periods.
- Ability to travel between ASC facilities as required.
- Ability to inspect welding operations and demonstrate welding techniques in a production environment.
The Lead Welding Trainer plays a critical role in ensuring ASC maintains a highly skilled, certified, and safety-focused welding workforce. Through effective training, coaching, certification management, and continuous improvement efforts, this position enhances product quality, reduces defects and rework, improves operational efficiency, and drives welding excellence across all ASC facilities.
