Machine Operator – CNC & Conventional Grinding

Machine Operator – CNC / Conventional Grinder

Join a precision manufacturing team in a clean, climate-controlled facility. We're looking for reliable Machine Operators who can set up, run, and maintain CNC grinders and conventional machines while producing high-quality parts within tight tolerances. This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, confidence using computers, and experience with precision measuring tools.

What You'll Do
  • Part Inspection — Visually inspect parts before machining to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Machine Setup — Set up CNC and conventional machines using detailed work instructions and correct parameters.
  • CNC Adjustments — Make minor CNC program edits to improve performance and resolve issues.
  • Gauge Calibration — Set up and calibrate gauge heads for high-tolerance sizing.
  • Precision Inspection — Inspect parts against process sheets using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges.
  • Machine Adjustments — Adjust machines during operation to maintain accuracy and consistency.
  • Grinding Wheel Maintenance — Dress grinding wheels and replace diamonds as needed.
  • Deburring — Remove burrs and sharp edges to ensure safe, high-quality finished parts.
  • Preventative Maintenance — Perform daily maintenance to keep machines in optimal condition.
  • Tool Use — Use pneumatic and manual hand tools safely during setup and operation.
  • Team Collaboration — Follow safety, quality, and production procedures while working with your team to meet goals.
Essential Skills
  • 2+ years CNC machine operation experience (required).
  • Experience loading/unloading machines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to set up and operate CNC grinders and conventional machines.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort with computer-controlled equipment.
  • Experience using pneumatic and manual hand tools.
  • Ability to read detailed work instructions and process sheets.
  • Skilled in micrometers, calipers, digital micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email).
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently once trained.
  • Ability to perform daily preventative maintenance.
  • Comfortable working with tight tolerances and precision components.
Preferred (Not Required)
  • Industrial or manufacturing background.
  • Experience with production and inspection processes.
  • Familiarity with CNC program adjustments and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interpret measurement data and maintain accurate records.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Willingness to pursue additional training or certifications.
  • Ability to work second shift after training on first shift.

Work Environment
  • Climate-controlled industrial facility focused on precision machining and grinding.
  • Training: First shift (7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) until fully independent.
  • Regular schedule: Second shift (7:00 p.m. – 3:30 a.m.) with shift differential.
  • Daily use of CNC grinders, conventional machines, pneumatic tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Clean, organized workspace with established safety and quality procedures.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.
