Responsibilities
- Function as an independent nurse clinician in the Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery division, performing, interpreting, and reporting test results; assessing patient status, educational needs, and follow‑up care, while providing education to staff and the community and assisting with research programs.
- Answer the triage line, record calls, and apply standard orders independently.
- Return patient and physician phone calls promptly.
- Determine the technical adequacy of each test and assess appropriateness of testing based on established policies and protocols.
- Recognize normal versus abnormal results, prepare accurate reports, and contact physicians as necessary.
- Assess patient health‑education needs and provide ongoing instruction.
- Coordinate additional care for gynecologic patients, including follow‑up testing or procedures, scheduling, physician orders, and hospital admissions.
- Maintain testing forms, statistics, documentation, and collaborate with other health‑care providers to formulate a plan of care.
- Assist with and maintain knowledge of billing and insurance protocols.
- Provide education to staff regarding testing and care of surgical patients.
- Act as a liaison between patients and community health providers.
- Actively participate in research through data collection and idea development.
- Serve as a public‑relations representative to the community.
- Maintain clinical competency, validating skill level by passing verbal and written tests administered by the Nursing Supervisor.
- Promote the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the School and Department by complying with policies and procedures.
- Uphold patient well‑being by serving as a positive role model and demonstrating a professional, caring attitude toward co‑workers, patients, and guests.
- Attend assigned duties to meet required performance standards.
- Monitor the surgery schedule.
- Review and update the Radiology Referral Tracking Log regularly.
- Educate patients on pre‑ and post‑operative care.
- Recognize and communicate abnormal post‑operative findings to providers.
- Ensure quality assurance of patient charts.
- Monitor clinical supply levels for the entire facility and place orders when needed.
- Perform venipuncture tasks.
- Complete patients’ FMLA and disability forms.
- Review and complete provider requests for specialty referrals.
- Complete other miscellaneous duties as assigned, including medication authorizations.
- Perform duties assigned by the Patient Navigator.
Patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
Qualifications- Graduation from an NLN‑Accredited School of Nursing with an RN license required; BSN preferred.
- Minimum one‑year of clinical experience caring for gynecological patients.
- Valid Virginia license as a Professional Registered Nurse.
