Sentara is currently hiring a Registered Nurse to work at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on the Surgery Unit 4 East. Generous sign‑on bonus of up to 15,000 and moving allowance for qualified candidates. New grads welcome: 7,500 sign‑on bonus for qualified candidates.
ResponsibilitiesThis position’s primary duties include assessing and admitting patients, conducting rounding checks, administering medications, communicating with families, and being responsible for the overall care of patients. Teamwork is exceptional, with everyone working together to ensure the best care for surgical patients.
Minimum Requirements- Virginia or Compact Multi‑State license in good standing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- RN diploma, ASN, BSN, or MSN from an accredited school.
- Medical, dental, and vision plans.

The 19‑bed unit specializes in post‑operative surgical patient care with a nurse‑to‑patient ratio of 1:5/6. Common clinical conditions include:
- General surgery (emergent & elective), including Davinci robotic surgery for colon, urology, and gynecological procedures.
- Urology (TURB, continuous bladder irrigation, stent placement).
- Gynecology surgeries (bladder/colon resections).
- Vascular (amputations, femoral popliteal bypass, fistulas).
- Mastectomies and variable staging of breast reconstruction.
- Soft tissue traumas (gunshot/stab wounds, MVAs, chest tubes).
- Medical population: diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, colorectal fistulas, kidney injury (acute & chronic), sepsis, pneumonia, asthma, and diabetes.
