Microbiology Analyst I – Environment Testing (Chesapeake, VA)

Schedule:

Monday‑Friday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. Compensation: $18‑22 per hour, commutable distance to lab.

• Apply GMP/GLP and company quality standards to all work.
• Perform microbiological analyses on environmental water samples using EPA methodology.
• Prepare media and cultures and perform bacterial test systems (Total Coliform,
  
  E. coli, Total Plate Counts, MPNs, Wastewater).
• Write, review, and edit reports, protocols, and SOPs.
• Train other staff and maintain precise records in line with good laboratory practice.
• Enter data into LIMS and maintain/calibrate equipment (incubators, water baths, refrigerators).
• Handle sample logistics: receive and unload samples, verify chain of custody, log into Lab Management System, label and ship to labs.
• Perform DOT compliant transport of samples, including courier duties as required.
• Maintain safety and environmental compliance, including hazardous waste disposal and temperature monitoring.
• Keep inventory, perform splits and composites, assist with walk‑in cooler maintenance, and ship empty coolers.
• Support client interaction professionally.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by local management.

• Computer skills: word processing, database, and shipping systems.
• Experience with microbiological laboratory procedures.
• Strong organizational and attention‑to‑detail skills.
• Excellent communication, both oral and written.
• Ability to work independently and in a team; self‑motivation and adaptability.
• Capacity to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and keep accurate records.

• Biology degree preferred; minimum of 4 credits of microbiology.
• Authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
• Ability to lift 50 lb.
• Professional working proficiency in English.

Compensation is based on experience; actual base salary may vary.
