Job Description:

The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Department is seeking a motivated Environmental Scientist to support the Stormwater Management Regulatory Division and assist with the implementation of the City's Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit program. This role focuses on stormwater pollution prevention, environmental compliance, water quality improvement, field investigations, public outreach, and data management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support green infrastructure projects through field investigations and inspection report reviews.
  • Conduct site investigations and water sampling activities for the illicit discharge program.
  • Perform surveys, categorize findings, and analyze environmental data.
  • Provide environmental program awareness training to staff.
  • Update environmental program standard operating procedures.
  • Analyze data and prepare regulatory compliance reports.
  • Maintain and update SharePoint lists and databases.
  • Support public education initiatives and distribute stormwater pollution prevention materials to residents.
  • Manage inventory and tracking of public education materials.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in water sampling and public education/outreach activities.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat Pro, and SharePoint.
Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (40 hours per week).
