Armed Security Officer

Overview

Sentara Princess Anne Hospital is hiring an Armed Security Officer for a full-time night shift Monday through Friday . The Armed Security Officer provides a physically safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and employees at Sentara Hospitals and Free‑standing Emergency Departments. All Armed Security Officers possess the ability to exercise discretion regarding the use of their weapons, only utilizing their weapon in times of extreme attack when all non‑violent options have been exhausted.

Virginia Beach, VA

Night shift Monday through Friday  (Third Shift)

• Actively monitor Concealed Weapons Detection System(s) at division entrances and inform visitors/patients that weapons are not allowed.
• Secure found weapons for safekeeping and patrol campus, monitoring activity around buildings and grounds.
• Respond to routine and emergency situations, conduct security investigations, evaluate situations and take appropriate steps for resolution.
• Perform camera surveillance, maintain department logs and records, and use computer skills for documentation of daily activities.
• Ensure compliance with Fit for Duty, Psychological Evaluation and Assessment, and Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate requirements.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required).
• One year of security experience (Required). Former military, law enforcement, or security officer experience preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (Required).
• Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate within 90 days of hire (Required).
• Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by IAHSS within 90 days of hire (Required).
• Fit for Duty assessment completion, Psychological Evaluation and Assessment by Sentara’s Service Provider.
