Overview

Sentara Princess Anne Hospital is hiring an Armed Security Officer to maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff during the night shift.

Responsibilities
  • Exercise discretion regarding the use of weapons, only using them during extreme attacks when all non‑violent options have been exhausted.
  • Monitor Concealed Weapons Detection System(s) at division entrances and notify individuals when weapons are not allowed.
  • Secure weapons for safekeeping during the visitor/patient’s stay.
  • Patrol campus, monitor activity around buildings and grounds, and respond to routine and emergency situations.
  • Operate camera surveillance and document processes in department logs.
  • Maintain accurate records, use computer skills for daily activity documentation, conduct security investigations, evaluate situations, and take appropriate steps for resolution.
Qualifications – Education and Certifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (required).
  • Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate within 90 days of hire (required).
  • Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by IAHSS within 90 days of hire (required).
Qualifications – Physical and Psychological
  • Fit for Duty assessment, including a psychological evaluation conducted by Sentara’s selected service provider.
Experience
  • One year of security experience (required).
  • Former military, law enforcement, or security officer experience preferred.
