We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Coating department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for one (1), J4 Painter.
Shift : 03:00 PM to 11:00 PM (2nd Shift)

GUIDELINES FOR MARINE PAINTER
JOURNEYPERSON 4 (Marine Painter)
- Must meet all Journeyperson Marine Painter 3 requirements
- Must also know how to set-up jobs and spraying equipment
- Must know how to measure and record DFT and environmental readings
- Must be proficient in brush and rolling painting, general house cleaning, or knowledge of all pumping (gas free) procedures
- Must be able to oversee a small group of people
- Should be able to troubleshoot equipment to ensure the job progresses
- Must be proficient in the requirements of NAVSEA 009-32 standard item
- Must meet all Journeyperson Marine Painter 2 requirements
- Must have knowledge of mixing and application of epoxy and enamel paints
- Must be able to perform his/her job in appropriate time frame without on-site supervision
- Must be able to read job specs and complete the job accordingly
- Should understand the requirements of NAVSEA 009-32 standard item
- Must meet all Journeyperson Marine Painter 1 requirements
- Must know how to use power tools associated with surface preparation and paint removal
- Must have knowledge of brushing and rolling painting
- Must have knowledge of surface preparation SSPC-SP-1, SP-2, SP-3, SP-5, SP-6, SP-10, SP-11 AND SP-12
- Must have knowledge of the paints used in marine painting, including safety data sheets and NAVSEA 718 product data sheets
- Must possess knowledge of the differences between critical coated systems and non-critical coated systems
- Must have knowledge concerning paint induction times and also have some knowledge of spray painting, or pumping (gas free) procedures
- May have two or more of the following SSPC certifications: C7, C12, C13, or C14
- Ability to perform work in confined spaces
- Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Item 009-32 and the requirements
- Must be SSPC certified in preservation in one of the following: (C7, C12, C13, or C14) or Coast Guard certified in pumping
- Must have good housekeeping skills
- Must know how to take care of hand tools: greasing and storage
- Must be able to perform their job safely
- Must have some knowledge about power tool cleaning, or pumping (gas free)
