Job Overview

Amentum is hiring a qualified Aviation Structural Mechanic to support U.S. Navy Aviation maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA for VFA-106. The role involves repairing aircraft structures, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneumatic, engine, auxiliary power unit (APU), ventilation and heating systems, and performing inspections and troubleshooting on both jet and reciprocating engines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform progressive, phase, periodic, and other inspections, including preflight, in-flight, and post-flight maintenance.
  • Inspect and diagnose engine components such as cylinders, valves, turbine blades, and ignition systems using testing equipment.
  • Replace or repair worn or damaged components including carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, pumps, and gearbox parts.
  • Remove, disassemble, inspect, and reassemble engines and airframe components using hoists or forklifts, ensuring proper reassembly and integration.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
  • Flush crankcases, clean screens and filters, grease moving parts, and check brakes.
  • Supervise jacking and towing operations and enter maintenance records describing work performed.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety, quality, and environmental policies.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Completed Navy Aviation Structural Mechanics (AM) “A” School or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and use of special tools and equipment required to perform assigned maintenance tasks.
  • Physical ability to perform required duties, including standing, climbing, bending, and standing in outdoor environments.
  • Valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license (if resident).
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a favorable T3 Secret eligibility status and facility credentials/authorization.
  • Pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check and maintain a CAC card if required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of F/A-18 A/G organizational‑level aircraft system maintenance experience.
  • Self‑motivated, able to work with minimal supervision.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Hourly rate: $34.86 per hour.
  • Additional $7.80 per hour for health & welfare up to 40 hours per week.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan, life insurance, long‑term disability, short‑term disability, paid time off, and 11 paid holidays annually.
