Trident Civil is a Virginia Beach–based civil and utility construction contractor self-performing work across Hampton Roads — pipe and utility, pump stations, grading and excavation. We are staffing up to self-perform the mechanical scope on a series of new sanitary pump station projects and are looking for skilled mechanical hands to join the crews.
The RoleWe need versatile mechanical installers who can move between several active pump station sites and handle the full mechanical scope in-house. This is a hands‑on field position for someone who is equally comfortable setting and aligning pumps, assembling process piping, and installing miscellaneous metals and ventilation equipment. You won't be pigeonholed into one task — you'll "bounce around" where the work is.
WhatYou'll Do
- Set, level, and align pumps and related rotating equipment to spec
- Fabricate and install process piping — suction and discharge headers, valves, fittings, and appurtenances (ductile iron and steel; flanged and mechanical‑joint connections)
- Install miscellaneous metals: handrail, stairs and stringers, grating, access hatches
- Install ventilation and HVAC equipment serving wet wells, valve vaults, and electrical rooms
- Read and work from mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and shop drawings
- Rig, hoist, and set equipment safely, including signaling and load handling
- Work within permit‑required confined spaces following entry procedures
- Support multiple pump station crews across the Hampton Roads area as priorities shift
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical installation — pump setting, industrial/process piping, or equivalent
- Ability to read mechanical and piping drawings
- Comfortable working in and around permit-required confined spaces (wet wells, dry pits, vaults)
- Solid rigging and hoisting fundamentals
- Reliable transportation and willingness to work across multiple Hampton Roads jobsites
- Able to meet the physical demands below and pass pre‑employment screening
- Background as a pipefitter, millwright, shipyard fitter, industrial maintenance mechanic, or pump station mechanic
- Experience on water/wastewater or HRSD‑type pump station projects
- Confined‑space entry certification
- Aerial lift and/or forklift certification
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Welding or flange make‑up experience
Physical Requirements & Work Environment- Outdoor field work in all seasons; below‑grade and confined‑space work
- Lifting, carrying, climbing, kneeling, and working from ladders and elevated platforms
- Use of hand and power tools throughout the shift
- Strict adherence to all Trident Civil and VOSH/OSHA safety requirements, including PPE
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.
- A collaborative and supportive work environment.
