Job Overview
This position provides the full breadth of Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) counseling services to children of all ages of military service members and their families at military installations and off‑installations. Services include non‑medical counseling, brief assessments, training and wellness presentations, consultation with parents, personnel, schools, and installation command on behavioral health issues affecting children and youth.
Responsibilities- Provide non‑medical, short‑term, solution focused counseling directly to eligible children and youth of service members at assigned primary and secondary locations.
- Conduct assessments, brief counseling, action planning, referral to resources, and follow‑up as indicated.
- Support DoDEA, community schools, summer camps, and other youth programs through direct counseling, parent training, and staff guidance.
- Deliver training and health and wellness presentations and participate in health fairs and base activities focused on children and youth.
- Enter counselor activity data daily through smartphone or web application to ensure accurate reporting while maintaining confidentiality and anonymity.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with community resources focused on children and youth and provide appropriate linkages.
- Maintain visibility within schools to ensure MFLC services are accessible and adhere to line‑of‑sight protocol.
- Partner with Points of Contact (POC) to provide CYB services that meet installation needs.
- Manage duty‑to‑warn and restricted reporting situations according to DoD protocol and staff cases with the Regional Supervisor/Director.
- Communicate with the Regional Supervisor and participate in individual and group supervision, sharing information on trends and issues.
- Respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the POC and approved by the Office of Secretary of Defense program manager.
- Flex schedule to respond to urgent requests as needed or at the request of the Regional Supervisor/Director.
- Participate in regular in‑services, training, quality improvement committees, pilot programs, and other contract activities as directed by the customer and/or Magellan.
- Complete activity documentation, integrate pilot activities into non‑medical counseling work, and utilize applicable technology to meet required activities.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Master’s Degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health related field.
- Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a state, District of Columbia, U.S. territory, or Commonwealth that permits service as an independent practitioner.
- Minimum of two years of post‑licensure clinical experience.
- Intermediate‑level competence in technology and software (Microsoft Suite, internet navigation, smartphone/tablet and application navigation, video‑conferencing platform navigation).
- Ability to engage and communicate with military members or children in any assigned location, responding quickly to emergent situations.
- Ability to traverse short and long distances within the base to indoor and outdoor locations, including rugged terrain, outdoor weather, and uneven surfaces.
- Requirement to comply with site‑specific requirements such as current immunizations or vaccinations and provide records of receipt.
- Proof of U.S. citizenship and fluency in English.
- Understanding, sensitivity, and empathy for children, service members, and families; ability to develop trusting, helping relationships.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Pass a Child National Agency Check and Inquiries (CNACI) Clearance, an Installation Records Check (IRC), a Criminal History Background Check, and an FBI Fingerprints Check.
- Vehicle Operator’s License:
Unless waived, all contractor personnel must possess a valid U.S. state vehicle operator’s license. May require a U.S. military vehicle operator’s permit for temporary duty (TDY) locations. - Meet Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology.
