Position:
Software Engineer – Unmanned Maritime Autonomy (HII Unmanned Systems)
- Design, develop, implement, and test autonomy solutions for unmanned maritime products.
- Develop creative and innovative solutions to complex autonomy problems for HII UxS products.
- Lead software product and customer deliverables, including documentation of requirements, design, and implementation.
- Enhance features and fix existing defects for customers.
- Communicate findings, problems, and solutions to functional, project teams, and external customers.
- Coordinate with system, firmware, hardware, and other engineering teams to deliver high‑quality software solutions.
- Participate in all phases of product development – requirements review, design, usability, risk assessment, and defect resolution.
- Follow software development processes and best practices.
- Collaborate with equipment designers and hardware engineers on multidisciplinary research, data processing systems and electronic integration.
- Determine computer user needs and evaluate system capabilities to solve program intent, output, input, and control requirements.
- Ensure compliance with software standards and best practices.
- Academic or work experience equivalent to 9 years with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 7 years with a Master’s; 4 years with a PhD or JD; or High School Diploma with 13 years of experience.
- 6+ years of hands‑on experience in software development and architecture design.
- In‑depth knowledge of C++ and Python programming languages.
- Experience with Data Distribution Service (DDS).
- Experience with Linux operating systems.
- Experience with Atlassian tools.
- Strong knowledge of version control systems.
- Experience with virtualization and containerization technologies.
- Debugging expertise for hard‑to‑reproduce whole‑system problems.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Ability to work in cross‑functional teams and handle multiple tasks.
- Bonus – experience with autonomous systems, maritime technology, and maritime robotics.
