Position: Certified Traffic Control Technician (TCT) / Flagger (AFAD Operator)
Work Area: Projects across Virginia and North Carolina
Schedule: Day / Night / Weekend work as needed
Type: Full-time with overtime opportunities
Pay: $16+ (DOE)
ABOUTTHE ROLE
We're hiring Certified Traffic Control Technicians to support mobile lane closures, short-duration work zones, and flagging operations, including the use of Automated Flagger Assistance Devices (AFADs). This is hands-on field work on active roadways where safety, communication, and professionalism matter.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Set up, maintain, and remove mobile & short-term lane closures (cones, signs, arrow boards, channelizing devices, etc.)
- Perform flagging operations and/or operate AFAD systems in accordance with applicable standards
- Work around moving traffic while maintaining situational awareness and crew safety
- Coordinate with crew leads and drivers to keep traffic control smooth and compliant
- Inspect traffic control devices daily and report damaged/missing equipment
- Follow all safety requirements (PPE, job briefings, work zone procedures)
- Current, valid traffic control/flagger certification recognized for Virginia work zones, such as:
- ATSSA Flagger Certification and/or
- Virginia Department of Transportation Basic Work Zone or Intermediate Work Zone certification

Note:
Virginia Department of Transportation has changed what it accepts for flagger certification; new/renewing flaggers must use ATSSA or VDOT Basic/Intermediate programs.)
- Comfortable working outdoors in all seasons and around traffic
- Able to lift/carry 50+ lbs, stand for long periods, and work on uneven ground
- Valid driver's license (clean driving record preferred)
- ATSSA Traffic Control Technician (TCT) certification (or higher)
- Experience with truck-mounted attenuators (TMA), arrow boards, and mobile operations
- Prior roadway/highway work zone experience
- Must be willing to travel out of town within the state of Virginia and some travel to North Carolina. Other states may vary as the company is expanding its work areas
