AECOM is seeking Traffic Monitoring Operator(s) located in Virginia Beach, VA. The shift hours available for the position(s) are 1st shift (5:15 am to 1:45 pm), 2nd shift (1:15pm –9:45 pm) and/or 3rd shift (9:15 pm – 5:45 am). Shift will be assigned after training is completed. The pay rate is $22.00/hour.
The Traffic Operations Center (TOC) is seeking motivated team members who are eager to learn and bring a strong growth mindset. We offer a unique role supported by an intensive, tailored, six-week training program. Working in a fast-paced, mission-critical setting, you will play a direct role in enhancing public safety through independent and team-based problem-solving, analyzing, and quickly responding to real-time traffic conditions.
The operator position uses several software platforms and web-based applications to perform tasks. Transportation Operations Center (TOC) Operators are responsible for using Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) software to monitor Department roadways and manage events/incidents; dispatching incident management personnel through 2‑way radios; and communicating, coordinating, and collaborating with other staff, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) personnel, and partner agencies.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITYThe TOC in Virginia Beach, VA houses a 24/7/365 program that delivers incident management, dispatching, and traveler information services on Virginia’s roadways. AECOM operations staff serve at the TOC facility on shifts to continuously respond to changing traffic conditions and impacts to traffic flow and safety through direct communication with first responders, VDOT staff, Virginia State Police (VSP) and mobility stakeholders of VDOT.
The routine responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES- Use software and applications to control and monitor various Intelligent Transportation Systems devices located along freeways, such as closed‑circuit television (CCTV) cameras, dynamic message signs (DMS), and Highway Advisory Radios (HAR) located on the interstate infrastructure.
- Monitor camera video and other information sources for the detection and verification of events that impact traffic flow and safety, such as motorist assists, traffic crashes, debris removal, abandoned vehicles, stalled vehicles, maintenance activity, and construction activity.
- Log potential and confirmed events that impact traffic flow and safety using software applications, including traffic lane and road shoulder closures related to construction and maintenance activity.
- Dispatch Safety Service patrollers, who provide roadside services on freeways in the Hampton Roads area related to traffic crashes and roadway hazard events using two‑way radio systems.
