Summary

Perform a variety of assignments pertaining to the operation, maintenance, service and repair, purchasing and other support for EMS equipment, facilities, and support vehicles.

Representative Work Functions and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the day-to-day coordinator between EMS operations, rescue squads, and fleet services to ensure readiness of the EMS fleet.
  • Serve as liaison between City Garage staff and division staff to ensure equipment is operated and maintained to the highest standards possible.
  • Perform periodical inspections of equipment to ensure that negligence or abuse is not occurring, and that equipment is operating properly.
  • Coordinate all major mechanical repair work with Central Garage or contracted vendors to minimize downtime. Coordinate and transport vehicles to City Garage or other local vendors as needed for repairs.
  • Develop and administer ambulance specifications in partnership with designees from rescue squads, EMS and the rescue council.
  • Assist rescue squads with pre-delivery inspections of new purchases.
  • Procure supplies and services, as needed, to ensure proper stocking, readiness, and permitting of the new EMS vehicles and ambulances.
  • Investigate accidents and claims of property damage involving department vehicles and equipment and file reports. Review all risk management submission for vehicle concerns and coordinate follow-up investigations and recommendations.
  • Track EMS fleet maintenance needs and concerns, with daily coordination with fleet services.
  • Assist with driving course portion of emergency vehicle driver training.
  • Develop and track fleet related performance metrics.
  • Coordinate vehicle readiness for regular safety and permitting inspections.
  • Develop, update and administer EMS vehicle checklists, standardization documents, vehicle MOUs, etc.
  • Supervise temporary employees who assist EMS by transporting vehicles and equipment to/from.
  • Maintain ready inventory of ATVs, jet skis and other support equipment.
  • Assist with special events by moving vehicles to/from.
  • Serve as primary point-of-contact for EMS building maintenance concerns and submissions.
  • Coordinate EMS facility needs with building maintenance.
  • Coordinate furniture movement, replacement and repairs in EMS facilities.
  • Conduct EMS facility readiness and safety inspections.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of accuracy on all reports and investigations.
  • Maintain effective safety programs to preclude unnecessary loss of personnel and equipment availability.
  • Ensure efficient maintenance and repair coordination in order to minimize absence of equipment downtime.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of ambulances
  • Provide viable alternatives for preventing breakdowns or accidents.

The ideal candidate would have experience coordinating the maintenance and/or repair work for a fleet or group of vehicles.
