The County of Augusta is accepting applications for the position of Accounting Technician in the Finance Department. This position will be responsible for overseeing the Augusta County Emergency Medical Services Revenue Recovery program. Revenue Recovery is a process in which the County bills for emergency ambulance transport services for both Career and Volunteer Rescue Agencies. Extensive skills in computer applications, Excel spreadsheets, and databases are required.
This position will also assist the County Finance Department with various accounting tasks as assigned.
- Import 911 calls into billing software and ensure all claims are processed by coding
- Research patient insurance verification
- Post insurance and patient payments
- Process patient statements and mail
- Assist with collecting outstanding accounts
- Process accounts for collections
- Run monthly/quarterly receivables reports and report to Finance Director
- reconcile bank accounts related to revenue recovery
- Process and code monthly invoices related to the revenue recovery operating budget
- maintaining fiscal files and related records
- Serve on the $4 for Life Committee as a member and secretary
- Processing quarterly Volunteer EMS disbursements
- Maintain credentialing of agency with insurance companies. With strict adherence to upcoming deadlines
- Serve as liaison for finance with the Board of Supervisors Public Safety Committee by providing monthly progress reports.
- Assist Finance Director with yearly budget preparation for the Revenue Recovery Program.
- Communicating with insurance and patients regarding billing. Excellent customer service skills are required.
- Other related tasks as required.
- Ability to process and reconcile accounts
- Ability to generate and review monthly reports
- Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures
- Competency in MS Office, databases and accounting software
- Hands-on experience with excel spreadsheets to include creating and data entry
- Excellent analytical and mathematical abilities
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- High level of integrity and trustworthiness
- Strong written and oral communication, as well as excellent interpersonal skills
- Deadline driven with excellent time management skills
- Organizational skills
- Experience with Medical Billing Software
- Ability to work independently and without supervision when required.
Candidates will have any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college/four year institution with major course work in accounting or related field and considerable experience in accounting and/or bookkeeping. Knowledge of medical billing and/or the Emergency Medical Service field a plus but not required.
This position has a starting salary of $43,195.
