The Deputy Clerk (Grade
8) is assigned docket and operational responsibilities in a high volume, fast-paced office with frequent, critical deadlines. This position requires a commitment to providing excellent customer service to a diverse population and responding to internal and external stakeholders and court users with a friendly, courteous, and positive attitude. The Deputy Clerk must work effectively in a team environment, uphold the Oath of Office, and maintain the strict confidentiality of all matters.

High school diploma or equivalent required. Qualified applicants must demonstrate a positive attitude and the ability to meet strict deadlines while handling a high volume of paperwork. Applicants should be highly detail-oriented, accurate, and possess strong time management and customer service skills. This position requires the ability to clearly explain procedures in person, excellent written and verbal communication skills/and advanced proficiency with office automation systems and computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite.

A high degree of data entry speed and accuracy is essential. Competitive applicants will be highly organized, self-motivated, able to work independently as well as part of a team, and capable of managing changing priorities. Cover letters and applications free from grammatical and typographical errors are indicators of strong attention to detail.

• Preferred qualifications include experience in the judicial system within the Commonwealth of Virginia, legal or professional office experience, customer service experience, and/or prior work in a trauma-informed environment.
• Prior experience with data entry, financial processing, and providing
  -face-to-face customer service in a challenging environment is also preferred.
