Clerical
Performs secretarial duties by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Receipts, deposits, and disburses and records all monies received by the school, and keeps an accurate ledger from which a monthly balance sheet and an annual audit can be conducted.
- Accepts and deposits funds for lunches, school supplies, and student activities.
- Maintains office and school supplies, prepares inventories and requisitions supplies.
- Receives and distributes all consumable supplies used in the office.
- Orders and dispenses school supplies.
- Compiles and files student grade and attendance reports and other school records.
- Greets visitors to school, determines nature of business, and directs visitors to destination.
- Talks with student encountering problem and resolves problem or directs student to other worker.
- Answers telephone to provide information, take message, or transfer calls.
- Maintains calendar of school events.
- Reports accidents to the central office and files accident insurance claims.
- Types letters, forms, reports and other materials.
- Maintains the confidentiality of reports, records, and personal experiences regarding students, employees, and parents.
- Provides alternative coverage in office, classroom, and clinic with all duties and as assigned.
- Assists with and/or oversees facility use request for the school.
- Other duties as assigned.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Thorough knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and secretarial techniques along with business English, spelling and arithmetic. Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures. Ability to type at a reasonable rate of speed. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others and the ability to meet the public.
Strong organizational, human relations, and communication skills.
High school diploma or generalized education degree (GED); school related experience preferred.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsValid Virginia Driver’s license.
Physical DemandsThe employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Terms of Employment12-month contract. Terms may vary based on the needs of the school and division.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
