Description
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, staff are needed to conduct Safety Town, a program for rising kindergartners that teaches life-saving lessons on strangers, traffic, fire, pedestrian, gun, poison, drug, playground, bus and weather safety.
Assists site supervisor and safety town community members with planning, promoting, organizing and implementing daily activities based on pre-arranged educational safety themes.
Supervises children participating in program, oversees program activities, and leads a group of children through their class safety lessons.
Provides emotional support and encouragement to child participants; ensures that safety standards are always maintained (this includes but is not limited to being responsible for participant’s safety and their whereabouts at all times).
Responsible for reporting any accidents/incidents to the program supervisor.
Assists children with practice of the program skits and songs.
Assists with set-up and clean‑up of the classrooms and facilities used during the program.
Requirements- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have at least 1 to 2 years of experience working with preschool aged children and/or experience in the recreation field; or any equivalent education combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
- This job is contingent upon successful completion of pre‑employment checks to include criminal history and background checks.
- Ability to work with children with special needs that may include special medical conditions, dietary concerns, and/or behavioral problems.
- Must have excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Must be creative and energetic.
- Must be able to identify recreational needs and interests of camp participants.
- Must exercise considerable tact and courtesy when interacting with program participants, parents and support staff.
- A consistent and reliable attendance record throughout the program is required.
- Must be available to work a revised schedule when needed.
Must be physically able to operate common office equipment such as personal computers, typewriters, copiers, calculators, etc. Work will involve both sitting and standing. When retrieving supplies and monitoring programs and facilities, work involves some bending, stooping, climbing stairs, and walking. There is occasional lifting of boxes, usually nothing weighing any more than 15-20 pounds.
