Position:
Laborer
Employment in Chesterfield, VA. The Laborer reports to field supervision and is responsible for all project related tasks including carrying materials, stacking, cleaning job site, assisting with grading operations, assisting with maintenance of traffic, chipping concrete, and other tasks as requested.
This is a safety-sensitive position requiring work on construction sites with various safety hazards inherent in heavy construction. The position is subject to drug testing and compliance policies associated with federal contracting.
Education and Experience Requirements- HS Diploma or GED (preferred); may be replaced with relevant work experience.
- Construction experience preferred; experience with hand and power tools.
- Reliable transportation.
- Familiar with grading, concrete, highway, and/or bridge construction and other highway construction scopes.
- Ability to work at heights and to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot, and humid weather.
- Ability to reach, lift, and perform work above shoulder height, and on uneven surfaces and confined spaces.
- Must be able to climb ladders, bend, squat, kneel, and crawl.
Open to travel.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Carry, load, unload, and stack materials.
- Lay out material and assist experienced crew members.
- Dig with pick and shovel.
- Assist with maintenance of traffic, including setting out and picking up cones, assisting with lane closures, flagging.
- Assist with dirt and grading operations.
- Shovel, rake, spread, and vibrate concrete into place.
- Climb embankments and ladders to carry material to various work sites as needed.
- Jackhammer and saw cut concrete.
- Clean up project site of debris.
- Lift up to 60 pounds from ground to waist level and 30 pounds above shoulder level throughout a scheduled shift.
- Continuous standing and walking required.
- Perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands.
- Climb ladders, bend, squat, kneel, crawl.
- Work outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot, humid weather.
- Acceptable corrected vision and hearing.
