About

The Role

Emerging Tech is seeking an experienced

Construction Inspector (CI) to support a long-term federal design-build construction program in the Yorktown, Virginia area.

The CI will provide full-time onsite inspection and surveillance of construction activities,monitor compliance with drawings, specifications, codes, quality requirements, and schedules, and document project progress and field conditions. The ideal candidate will have significant federal construction experience across multiple building trades, utilities, new construction, and renovation in occupied or operational environments.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily onsite inspection and surveillance of construction work for compliance with drawings, specifications, codes, and quality requirements
  • Monitor structural, civil, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, architectural, and site utility work
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules, submittals, RFIs, as-builts, testing reports, payment requests, and construction changes
  • Attend construction, quality control, and progress meetings and document significant issues and actions
  • Witness field tests, verify materials and installed work, andidentifydeficiencies or non-compliant conditions
  • Maintain inspection diaries, photographs, logs, project records, and weekly construction progress reports
  • Monitor multiple trades working concurrently and communicate quality, schedule, safety, and coordination concerns to project leadership
  • Support pre-final and final inspections, punch lists, closeout documentation, and verification of corrective work
  • Maintain professional relationships with contractors whileoperatingwithin the defined authority of the Construction Inspector
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of construction experience as a Construction Inspector, Contractor Superintendent, Quality Control Manager, or similar role;or 5+ years of experience with a four-year engineering degree, PE, PMP, or relevant QA/QC certification
  • 2+ years of Federal Government construction experience within the last 10 years
  • Experience with ground-up construction and renovation work in or adjacent to occupied facilities
  • Experience with multiple trades, including structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, architectural, and civil construction
  • Knowledge of underground/site utilities, including electrical, water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and telecommunications
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and applicable building codes
  • Experience documenting construction progress, deficiencies, unforeseen conditions, and corrective actions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PDF documents, digital photography, and construction management software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently onsite
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of Federal Government construction experience within the last 10 years
  • 2+ years of construction experience in Virginia
  • 2+ years of experience with construction in tenant-occupied or operational spaces
  • Experience with Procore
  • QA/QC, PE, PMP, CCM, or other relevant construction certifications
  • Experience supporting projects from mobilization through completion
  • Experience with design-build construction
  • Experience with multi-level or multi-purpose facilities, including office, training, or classroom spaces
  • Experience with building additions or renovations of approximately
    15,000 SF or larger
  • Experience with new site utilities, roads, backup power, and major electrical distribution systems
  • Experience with multi-mission facilities and specialized civil, site, or waterfront infrastructure
  • Prior construction experience supporting military, DHS, or other federal agencies
