Position: Library Assistant (Marketing)
Location: Yorktown

Responsibilities

  • Promote events, services, and resources of the County Libraries.
  • Produce a variety of promotional materials using graphic design and publishing software.
  • Manage social media accounts, designing graphics and campaigns to promote library events, services and resources.
  • Assist with layout, development, and evaluation of marketing tools and content, including newsletters, editorials, flyers, TV slides, presentations, and other marketing materials.
  • Write and edit compelling copy for different platforms and publications while maintaining a consistent and appropriate tone for the library.
  • Respond to social media questions and comments in consultation with Library leadership.
  • Provide publications and graphics support to other library staff as requested and ensure all publications comply with current design standards.
  • Photograph events and regular activities at the library for marketing purposes.
Qualifications
  • Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; a bachelor’s degree in a field related to communication, journalism, or public relations is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings, as required.
  • Physical ability to operate office equipment such as computers, copiers, and other machinery and equipment.
  • Proficiency in social media marketing principles and strategies.
  • Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and accepted journalistic usage.
  • Proficiency in personal computers and software applications, including word processing, graphic design, desktop publishing, and spreadsheet software.
  • General knowledge of photography and basic videography techniques.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees.
  • Ability to analyze work procedures and exercise sound judgment in establishing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to provide courteous and professional customer service.
  • Successful completion of pre‑employment checks, including criminal history, background, and DMV record checks.

The earliest start date for this position is July 13, 2026.
