Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is one of the largest of Virginia's 23 community colleges. The Theatre Technician is responsible for technical aspects of events held in Brightpoint Community College's Lynn Theatre, located on the Midlothian campus. Will assist in booking and scheduling events, and with ensuring a high standard of hospitality in communicating with renters, performers, patrons, and visiting artists. Will supervise student workers in the areas of:
Auditorium, Scene Shop, Lighting, Front of House, Sound, and Props and assign students to work when the theatre is in use for productions and rehearsals. Reports directly to the Department Chair for Performing Arts. Please note that this is a part-time position and will work up to 29 hours a week that include evenings, and weekends. No state benefits.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have work experience as a Theater Technician in one or more areas. Knowledge of theatre management and equipment used for lighting, scenic design, sound design, and costume design is essential. Must have supervisory skills and be able to communicate effectively with leadership, colleagues, internal clients, faculty, staff and students. Candidates must be comfortable working under tight deadlines and must possess the ability to work independently with limited supervision and as a member of a team.
Successful completion and passing of a background check is required for employment.
Additional Considerations:
Bachelor's degree in Technical Theatre in Lighting, Stage Management, Sound, Scenic or Costume Design.
