Location: Red Onion State Prison

• Operates a Dental Office Practice within a correctional facility and serves as a member of the VADOC Mobile Dental Unit.
• Provides routine and emergency dental care to adult offenders with assistance from Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists.
• Supervises Dental Assistants and provides clinical supervision for Dental Hygienists.
• Performs examinations, takes necessary x‑rays, performs fillings and extractions as warranted.
• Diagnoses and develops treatment plans for patients, providing full-range dental care and education on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of oral diseases.
• Travels to surrounding institutions and field units as part of the Mobile Dental Unit to deliver care to those sites.
• May be assigned additional duties or locations to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.

• Degree in dental surgery (D.D.S.) or dental medicine (D.M.D.) from an American Dental Association (ADA) approved school, or an equivalent program.
• Licensed to practice dentistry in Virginia.
• Controlled Substances Certificate from the Drug Enforcement Administration.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose, treat oral health issues, and educate patients on preventive care.
• Proficiency in using advanced diagnostic technologies, including radiography and computer‑generated imaging.
• Experience with restoration and replacement of teeth damaged by decay, trauma, or disease.
• Working knowledge of general dentistry.
• Strong oral and written communication skills in a professional manner.

• Previous supervisory experience or training and supervising dental staff.
• Experience providing dental care and treatment in a dentist office, military, or correctional setting.
