Grundy, Virginia Emergency Medicine Physician Locum Tenens Opportunity
~10,000 Annual ED Visits
• 12-Hour Shifts
• FM/IM/Surgery/IM Boards Accepted
• September & October Coverage | Ongoing Need
Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking Board Certified Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, and Internal Medicine Physicians for upcoming Emergency Medicine locum tenens coverage in Grundy, Virginia.
For physicians who prefer lower-volume community Emergency Medicine, this is a compelling assignment. The Emergency Department sees approximately 10,000 annual visits with 24 hours of daily physician coverage divided into straightforward 12-hour shifts.
Current openings are concentrated into defined blocks in September and October, making this particularly attractive for physicians who have several consecutive days available and want to turn them into a focused locums assignment.
The clinical environment is broad community Emergency Medicine. Specialty backup is limited, so physicians should be comfortable independently evaluating, stabilizing, treating, and determining appropriate disposition or transfer for Emergency Department patients.

Practice Environment
This is a lower-volume community Emergency Department serving Southwest Virginia and the surrounding Appalachian region.
- Approximately 10,000 annual ED visits
- 49-bed hospital
- 24-hour physician coverage
- 12-hour physician shifts
- T-System EMR
- Limited specialty backup
At approximately 10,000 annual visits, the opportunity offers a distinctly different practice environment from a high-throughput metropolitan Emergency Department while still requiring the breadth and independent decision-making of community Emergency Medicine.
Clinical Scope
Physicians should be comfortable practicing broad-spectrum Emergency Medicine, including:
- Evaluation and stabilization of Emergency Department patients
- Acute medical presentations
- Emergency and traumatic presentations
- Emergency procedures within physician competency
- Diagnostic evaluation and treatment
- Code response
- Patient disposition
- Transfer coordination when higher-level or specialty care is required
- T-System documentation
- Collaboration with nursing and available hospital resources
Because specialty backup is limited, candidates should be comfortable practicing with the independence expected in a community Emergency Department and recognizing when transfer is appropriate.
