Job Title: Special Education Teacher (3 Elementary & 1 Middle School Opening)

Location: Accomack, VA 23301

Pay Rate: $38–$50/hour

Birch Agency is currently seeking Special Education Teachers for in-person positions in Accomack County, VA. We are looking for passionate, dedicated educators who are committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of students with special needs.

Current Openings Elementary School (3 Positions)
  • 2 Inclusion Setting Positions
  • 1 Self-Contained Classroom Position
Middle School (1 Position)
  • 1 Inclusion Classroom Position

Successful candidates will support students in developing academic, social, and motor skills while fostering a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Duties
  • Implement the assigned program of study
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals
  • Maintain and enhance professional skills
  • Establish and reinforce classroom rules and expectations
  • Maintain classroom order and ensure student safety
  • Counsel students regarding academic and behavioral challenges
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and behavior
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grading records
  • Coordinate class field trips when applicable
  • Collaborate effectively with school staff and administration
  • Assume responsibility for classroom materials, equipment, and facilities
  • Maintain a neat, safe, and positive learning environment
  • Encourage student self-direction and motivation
  • Utilize a variety of instructional materials and resources
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and Special Education Director
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or a related field
  • Valid Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with appropriate Special Education endorsement (or eligibility)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community
