Spotsylvania's Career and Technical Center is seeking a highly skilled and qualified instructor to plan and provide engaging learning experiences for students in the field of Culinary Arts, with a specialization in Baking and Pastry. Our Career and Technical Education Instructors develop and implement instructional programs that effectively provide the best possible education for each and every student. Additionally, this role will leverage strong communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and stakeholders to support student success.
Course
Description:
- Culinary Arts I – foundation in the food service industry, kitchen safety and sanitation, purchasing and receiving, nutrition, and math & science integration. Includes CTSO participation and high‑quality work‑based learning.
- Culinary Arts II – builds on foundational skills, covering advanced culinary techniques, advanced safety and sanitation, and industry‑recognized certifications such as Serv Safe. Hands‑on training includes baking, pastry, commercial food management, menu design, and personnel management.
- Baking and Pastry Specialization – hands‑on development of nutritional principles, menu planning, business and mathematics skills, equipment maintenance, and safety & sanitation. Emphasizes science, mathematics, critical thinking, problem‑solving, and entrepreneurial opportunity.
- Designs instruction based on subject‑matter expertise, current instructional practices, student needs, industry trends, and curriculum goals as outlined by the VA Department of Education.
- Develops authentic, engaging, hands‑on lessons and evaluates student progress; provides prompt, specific feedback; maintains appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Implements a classroom‑management policy that fosters a safe, positive environment for all students and staff.
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, Spotsylvania County School Board policy, and administrative regulations.
- Develops and maintains contacts and partnerships with local industry professionals.
- Develops, maintains, and supervises clinical experiences for culinary students.
- Stays current with changes in the industry and discipline of culinary professionals.
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable field of education—or the equivalent in credentialing, training, and/or applied trade experience.
- Ability to obtain additional/appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board.

- Two (2) years of successful experience in front‑of‑house, back‑of‑house, food safety, baking, and pastry.
Preferred
- Currently possesses a Technical Professional License with a Culinary Arts Endorsement.
- Currently certified to teach Serv Safe.
- Prior teaching experience within a vocational educational program.
