  • Implements the assigned program of study.
    * Develops and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
    * Monitors student progress toward achieving instructional objectives and goals outlined in the IEPs.
    * Maintains and upgrades professional skills.
    * Teaches rules of conduct.
    * Maintains order in the classroom and on the playground when applicable.
    * Counsels pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise.
    * Discusses pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents. Keeps attendance and grade records as required by the school.
    * Coordinates class field tips when applicable. Works cooperatively with the total staff.
    * Assumes responsibility for the care of materials, equipment, and facilities.
    * Assumes responsibility for maintaining a neat, safe environment and promotes positive interaction among students.
    * Encourages self-direction and self-motivation and demonstrates knowledge of the subject(s) being taught.
    * Utilizes a variety of appropriate materials and resources.
    * Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Principal and the Special Education Director. Qualifications
    * Must possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in education or a related field.
    * Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with appropriate endorsement to teach special education.
    * Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    * Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public. Clearance Criminal Justice Background check, Fingerprinting, TB Assessment Working Conditions &

    Physical Requirements Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in regular classrooms, outdoors, and on thephonee;

    physical agility to lift to 25 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead. Health
