Under the supervision of the designated supervisor and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas, the Program Director shall be accountable for the development, promotion, management and growth of all assigned youth development and youth sports programming in accordance with the Virginia Department of Social Services Child Care Licensing Standards and standards of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas.

With an emphasis on ensuring the highest quality service to members and guests, the Program Director will work closely with other center leaders in efforts to welcome, connect, support, and engage all members.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent experience required; core competency and course work required from the Virginia Department of Social Services Licensing Standards.
  • Y-USA Team Leader Certification (or equivalent) required within two years and must begin working towards certification within 6 months.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience supervising staff, developing programs and working with children and parents preferred.
  • Medication Administration Training Certified attained within first 60 days of employment. Training will be provided upon hiring.
  • Background must include strong skills in parent relations, staff development, curriculum/program development and child development.
  • Proof of a negative TB test within the last 2 years.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 within 30 days of hire.
  • Complete and maintain required trainings to include:
    New Staff Orientation (NSO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment.
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check.
Essential Functions
  • Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
  • Promote a professional values-based culture by leading with the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Lead in a manner that advances our cause to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
  • Maintain relationships with members, program participants and partner agencies through verbal and written communications and encourage the growth of membership participation.
  • Promote and participate in YMCA fundraising efforts to include Annual Giving Campaigns through recruitment and leadership of a team of volunteers.
Program Development
  • Organize, plan, promote, and schedule child care (after school and summer camp) sports, youth, and teen programs.
  • Plan, organize, promote, and evaluate youth sports programs in accordance with Association standards and timelines
  • Develop and manage seasonal program schedules, including practices, games, and special events
  • Plan and implement holiday, seasonal and school closure day activities.
  • Review and evaluate all programs to determine participant needs and possible areas of improvement or growth.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery. This includes, but is not limited to schools, counties, and program sites.
  • Stay current and informed with up-to-date childcare issues in the state and community.
Program Administration
  • Work with center leadership staff to increase performance in KPI-identified areas.
  • Prepare and administer assigned annual budget, making revisions as necessary to meet or exceed budget guidelines.
  • Manage weekly payments by the parents of the school age and day camp participants.
  • Purchase, care, maintain, and store of program supplies and equipment in accordance with the operating budget.
  • Maintain proper documentation to meet or exceed state licensing requirements and Association Quality Standards.
  • Coordinate paid referees, including scheduling, communication, and compliance with safety and risk guidelines (in collaboration with Association leadership as required).
  • Schedule athletic fields and facilities in correspondence with county contract.
  • Facilitate quarterly stakeholders' meetings with community partners to discuss scheduling and upcoming maintenance of county facilities.
  • Hire, develop motivate, and retain a committed staff team passionate about the YMCA’s mission and service to members.
  • Hold regular one-on-one meetings with all staff members to learn about, gauge satisfaction, and provide career development coaching/training.
