General DescriptionThe English Language (EL) Tutor functions as a facilitative agent for the successful integration of non-English speaking students into the English language instructional environment of the school system. The EL Tutor interviews, assesses, evaluates, and determines the specific needs of all incoming and continuing students whose primary native language is other than English. Using this information, the EL Tutor serves as resource staff for EL students.
EssentialFunctions
- Assists EL students acquire the skills and to become proficient in the English language.
- Provides adjunct instruction to the EL student; requests are generally initiated by the classroom teacher to convey more efficiently to the student the curricular content required by the SOL's.
- Performs other duties as required.
Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university or completion of 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university or passing score on the Para Pro examination.

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects, and some light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Work requires reaching, pushing, and pulling, use of hands to grasp, handle or feel, fine manipulation, and repetitive motions.
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of office equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
