Provides support services for teachers and administrators. Performs routine clerical and/or instructional assignments within established procedures and standard practices. Tasks performed are outlined in oral and written instructions; employees have some control over work assignments. Contacts are made within and outside the school and may require the handling of sensitive information or dealing tactfully with parents, teachers, and staff. Some judgment is required.
The position will have a specific set of work assignments particular to meeting the needs of the students or department being served.
Minimum Qualifications
- Candidates for employment must be a minimum of 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or GED. Education, training or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Assists teachers with classroom duties, including providing small group instruction as directed by the teacher.
- Assists students with academic subjects; one-to-one, small group, or whole class support.
- Prepares and reproduces classroom materials; assists with bulletin boards and displays.
- Assists in classrooms and office as assigned and as needed.
- Provides clerical assistance – including typing, filing, maintaining records, attendance, ordering supplies and materials.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Uses a personal computer and/or laptop, standard office equipment, and other equipment related to the assigned area.
ContactsContacts are made within and outside the school division and require the handling of sensitive and/or confidential information related to students served.
Decision MakingPerforms work under the direction of the teacher(s) and administrator(s). Work requires some independence and judgment.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone to enter data into a computer terminal;
to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; to hear, understand speech, and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to drive, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly works in a school classroom environment. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to quiet.
EvaluationPerformance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation personnel.
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesDemonstrated basic reading, writing and computation skills. Previous experience working with groups of children. Some knowledge of general academic subjects sufficient to teach others, of childhood growth and development, behavior management techniques, and clerical procedures. Demonstrated ability to supervise children in the absence of a supervisor, to perform basic clerical tasks, to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to follow oral and written instructions.
Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff and parents in a professional manner.
- This position requires current First Aid/CPR /AED certification.
- The employee must attend provided training, as well as any required additional training(s), and renew as mandated.

- a) completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (60 credit hours);
