Elementary STEAM Teacher – 195-Day Position

Location:

Haymarket, VA. Position open for full‑time, 195 school days.

Job Summary

This role plans and implements instructional programs and provides educational services for students in grades K‑5. The teacher manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates achievement, and modifies instructional activities as needed. The teacher may serve in a single classroom, team, departmental setting, or work independently in a unique teaching specialty. The position may be assigned to reading or technology labs and works under the supervision of the principal or designated administrator.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Implements an instructional program that provides appropriate learning for each student by differentiating instruction.
  • Plans and delivers instruction in adherence to the Prince William County Curriculum documents and specific teaching assignments.
  • Assesses student abilities relative to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.
  • Plans appropriate instructional and learning strategies and activities, determining appropriate principles of learning, classroom organizational structures, and suitable materials.
  • Manages student behavior in an instructional setting, ensuring a conducive learning environment and participates in behavior management throughout the school.
  • Cooperates with and participates in the planning and evaluation of the school program.
  • Requests assistance from resource personnel when needed to ensure an appropriate learning environment for all students.
  • Participates in the professional development program of the school and school division.
  • Coordinates instructional activities and collaborates with other professional staff to maximize learning opportunities.
  • Follows the ethics of the profession and school policies.
  • Supports and promotes parent/teacher partnerships.
  • Enforces policies and regulations as established by the Prince William County School Board and staff.
  • Supervises pupil activities in buildings and on grounds during and after school hours, responsible for student conduct and safety.
  • Demonstrates prompt and accurate written communication and reporting.
  • Adheres to county and school disciplinary procedures.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the instructional process.
  • Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty(ies) to which the teacher is assigned.
  • Knowledge of pre‑adolescent and adolescent growth and development.
  • Knowledge of Prince William County Curriculum related to assignments and the division's mission, goals, and organization.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
  • Skill in the use of multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and on the needs and abilities of students.
  • Skill in oral and written communication; excellent human relations skills.
  • If teaching a foreign language, proficiency in oral and written communications in that language.
  • If teaching choral music, ability to teach through demonstrating singing/choral techniques, proficiency on the piano, and ability to distinguish pitches and tone quality.
  • If teaching instrumental music, proficiency in one or more instruments and the ability to model correct playing techniques.
  • If teaching visual art, a personal portfolio demonstrating artistic ability and experience in varied media.
  • If teaching career and technical education, journey‑level proficiency in that trade is required; on‑the‑job lead or supervisory experience desirable.
Education Requirements

Minimum:
Bachelor’s Degree.

Certification and License Requirements
  • Collegiate Professional, Post Graduate Professional, or appropriate vocational license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with required endorsements for teaching assignments; must be eligible for the Virginia Teacher Certification Program or licensure.
  • If assigned off‑site tasks or serving as an itinerant teacher, possession of a valid automobile operator’s license to operate a vehicle in Virginia is required.
Work Environment

The teacher works primarily in indoor classroom settings. The role requires standard classroom duties such as exposure to occasional noise, computer screens, and occasional minor heating or ventilation issues. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
