Educational Interpreter - Yorktown, VA

Location: Yorktown

Step into an engaging educational environment as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting K-12 students for the  academic year. This contract opportunity allows you to work closely with students at various grade levels, fostering communication and accessibility throughout their school day. You'll partner with dedicated educators and be instrumental in helping students thrive.

In this role, you will interpret for four students at different educational stages:

• A kindergarten student (Elementary, 8:40 am - 3:20 pm)
• A second-grade student (Elementary, 8:40 am - 3:20 pm)
• A high school senior pursuing a standard diploma (High School, 7:20 am - 2:05 pm)
• A potential high school sophomore working toward a modified diploma (High School, 7:20 am - 2:05 pm)

Assignments run from August 24, 2026, through June 9, 2027, for 35 hours weekly, giving you a consistent schedule within the academic calendar.

Required qualifications:

• Valid VQAS Level 3 or EIPA 3.0+ certification
• Experience interpreting within K-12 educational settings
• Strong skills in American Sign Language, with the ability to adapt communication for young children through high schoolers
• Professionalism, reliability, and an ability to collaborate with teachers and support teams

Key responsibilities:

• Provide accurate interpretation in classroom, one-on-one, and group settings
• Facilitate effective communication between students and staff
• Support student participation in academic and social activities
• Adapt interpreting techniques based on student needs and age-appropriateness
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
