Position SummaryThe Head Start Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a developmentally appropriate classroom program for preschool-aged children. The teacher will create a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment that supports children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development in alignment with Head Start Performance Standards and The Improvement Association’s mission.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement daily lesson plans using an approved curriculum that supports individual learning styles and developmental levels.
- Provide a nurturing classroom environment that fosters trust, curiosity, and positive relationships.
- Conduct ongoing assessments and maintain accurate documentation of each child’s progress.
- Partner with parents and families to encourage involvement in classroom activities and their child’s development.
- Ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of all children at all times.
- Collaborate with teacher assistants, family service workers, and support staff to meet program goals.
- Participate in required training, staff meetings, and professional development activities.
- Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal Head Start regulations and licensing requirements.
- Required: Associate degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field with coursework equivalent to a major in ECE.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
- Experience working in an early childhood or Head Start classroom environment.
- Knowledge of child development principles, positive behavior guidance, and classroom management strategies.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to meet all background check, health, and training requirements as outlined by Head Start and licensing standards.
- Classroom setting with active engagement and supervision of children ages 3–5.
- Some travel for training or program meetings may be required.
