Position Summary

The Head Start Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a developmentally appropriate classroom program for preschool-aged children. The teacher will create a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment that supports children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development in alignment with Head Start Performance Standards and The Improvement Association’s mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement daily lesson plans using an approved curriculum that supports individual learning styles and developmental levels.
  • Provide a nurturing classroom environment that fosters trust, curiosity, and positive relationships.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments and maintain accurate documentation of each child’s progress.
  • Partner with parents and families to encourage involvement in classroom activities and their child’s development.
  • Ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of all children at all times.
  • Collaborate with teacher assistants, family service workers, and support staff to meet program goals.
  • Participate in required training, staff meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal Head Start regulations and licensing requirements.
Qualifications
  • Required: Associate degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field with coursework equivalent to a major in ECE.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
  • Experience working in an early childhood or Head Start classroom environment.
  • Knowledge of child development principles, positive behavior guidance, and classroom management strategies.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to meet all background check, health, and training requirements as outlined by Head Start and licensing standards.
Work Environment
  • Classroom setting with active engagement and supervision of children ages 3–5.
  • Some travel for training or program meetings may be required.
