Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Instructional Assistant to support our Special Education program at Orange Elementary. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers to provide individualized assistance to students with diverse learning needs, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. This full‑time position requires a commitment to enhancing the educational experience of students with disabilities, ensuring they have the necessary resources and support to thrive academically and socially.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Provide direct support to students during instructional activities, including one‑on‑one and small group settings.
  • Help students with personal care tasks, including but not limited to feeding, toileting, and mobility assistance as needed.
  • Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement, reporting any concerns to the teacher.
  • Support the development of social skills and promote positive interactions among students.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training sessions as required.
  • Assist with classroom organization, preparation of materials, and maintenance of a safe learning environment.
  • Implement behavioral management strategies as directed by the teacher or special education team.
  • Engage in ongoing communication with parents and guardians to support student success.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
    Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, practices, and IEP processes is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow directions from teachers and administrators.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with educational technology and software.
  • Willingness to undergo background checks and any required training or certifications related to special education.
  • Physical ability to assist students as needed, including lifting or moving students in accordance with safety protocols.
