Overview
This position supports the academic success of all students through the development and implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program that is preventative in design and developmental in nature. The school counselor plans, designs, and delivers a program aligned with national, state, and local standards, as well as the unique needs of the individual school community. Services are delivered, managed, and evaluated in accordance with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model.
The school counselor functions as a leader, advocate, collaborator, and agent of systemic change to support the academic, career, and social-emotional development of all students. Through the use of data-informed practices and evidence-based strategies, the counselor promotes equitable access and opportunities that foster each student’s maximum growth and achievement.
In year one of this specialized role, the elementary school counselor will allocate a portion of their time to providing direct and indirect school counseling services within a preschool-only elementary setting at Washington-Reid Elementary School, reporting to the building principal and supporting the unique developmental needs of early learners. The counselor will also dedicate a portion of their time to advancing preschool school counseling practices across the division.
In this capacity, the counselor will develop resources and tools aligned to best practices in early childhood counseling and will provide support to school counselors working with preschool populations. For this portion of the role, the counselor will report to the Supervisor of Elementary Counseling and Related Services and contribute to division-wide efforts to strengthen comprehensive school counseling services for preschool students.
