The Craig County School Board in Virginia is seeking a highly qualified applicant for Craig County High School who is available for the school year.
OverviewThis position will assist in the administration of all aspects of the total school program for Craig County Schools by providing educational leadership for students and staff consistent with division goals.
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude other duties if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this position.
Assistant Principal- Conduct instructional supervision and evaluation, including classroom and teaching observations for assigned areas;
- Implement curriculum and educational objectives consistent with goals;
- Develop an efficient system for student and program appraisal, recommending changes as needed to meet student needs;
- Advise teachers regarding instruction, classroom management, and student discipline;
- Evaluate grading procedures and student progress with members of the staff;
- Assist teachers in planning field trips and using community resources;
- Provide leadership in initiating in‑service programs and organizational improvements;
- Provide a climate conducive to effective communications through faculty meetings, committees, and individual conferences;
- Coordinate the use of subject‑matter specialists, resource teachers, and other resource personnel;
- Assist the principal in coordinating and administering pupil personnel services and maintaining high expectations for daily operations;
- Assist the principal in administering staff personnel procedures in accordance with approved policies and procedures;
- Assist the principal in administering the financial and building needs of the school;
- Assist the principal in establishing and maintaining an effective school/community relations program;
- Plan, schedule, and oversee intramural and interscholastic day, evening, and weekend athletic events; coordinate schedules with other activities within the school and with other schools' programs; prepare the annual master athletic and activities calendar; attend athletic events;
- Coordinate and advise athletic coaches and other student activity sponsors; conduct meetings to explain policies and programs and discuss problems;
- Coordinate and participate in preparation for student activities, including preparation of facilities, securing necessary temporary personnel (ticket sellers, gate coverage, police, public address crews, doctors, and game officials), arranging transportation (including field trips), allotting concessions, preparing for traffic and crowd control, and arranging custodial coverage, clean‑up, and repair after events;
- Interpret students' eligibility and prepare eligibility lists; arrange team physical examinations where applicable;
- Attend district, regional and state athletic meetings;
- Work collaboratively with the principal to schedule administrative coverage of all after‑school events;
- Schedule and coordinate student activities and events, such as dances and performances, avoiding scheduling conflicts in facility usage;
- Arrange special events such as award presentations, rallies, and programs by outside groups promoting athletic or student activities, including attending athletic booster club functions;
- Schedule use of rooms and facilities for student and community activities and provide adequate supervision and protection of property and equipment;
- Develop and implement a written annual plan to promote positive public relations regarding athletic and other student activities;
- Assume responsibility for evaluating all athletic coaching staff members and observing practice sessions;
- Assume responsibility for adherence to all Virginia High School League district and regional rules and regulations;
