Primary FunctionResponsible for supervision of school counseling services in the school setting.
Minimum Qualifications- 3 years of experience as a School Counselor; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides acceptable knowledge, abilities, and skills, as evidenced in the following performance responsibilities.
- Professional license with endorsement in guidance at the appropriate level (elementary, middle, or high school) and a Master's Degree in Education.
Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of school counseling operations and issues.
- Ability to quickly learn procedures used to report information and maintain records.
- Ability to prepare required written reports.
- Ability to organize, manage, and make sound decisions.
- Perform all tasks assigned to all school counselors (see School Counselor Job Description).
- Coordinate and supervise the total counseling program in the school.
- Serve as the liaison between the building principal and the counseling staff.
- Provide information to the principal regarding the counseling program.
- Coordinate and supervise the implementation of the basic counseling program, including academic, career, and personal/social counseling, testing, scheduling, and post‑secondary education.
- Coordinate and supervise the administration of tracking student SOL results and verified credits; career and academic activities in the school; reports, committee assignments, and meetings relevant to the counseling department; the maintenance of departmental records and student scholastic records; and ordering counseling-related materials.
- Identify needs for in‑service training of the counseling staff.
- Supervise School Counselors' professional work and orient new counseling personnel.
- Assist the Principal in developing the master schedule.
- Determine School Counselor assignments.
- Assume responsibility for dealing with problems between staff and parents.
- Coordinate scheduling efforts with the school administrators.
- Maintain a counseling load ranging from 0 to 300.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
School Principal
Terms of Employment200 days plus additional days according to School Board Pay Plan for Middle School or 12 months for High School. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
EvaluationPerformance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
