Instructional Assistant – School Year
The Craig County School Board, Virginia, is now accepting applications for the Instructional Assistant for the School Year.
Primary ResponsibilitiesPerforms responsible human support and paraprofessional work assisting classroom teachers by working with individual students or small groups; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the classroom teacher. This is a non‑exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Essential Functions / Typical Tasks- Assist classroom teacher(s) in performing specific duties as assigned;
- Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce material introduced by teacher;
- Assist in maintaining student records;
- Assist with grading and recording grades under teacher’s supervision;
- Maintain appropriate contact with parents, administrators and teachers;
- Perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, copying, collating, etc.;
- Assist with large group activities;
- Guide independent study and other work assigned by teacher;
- Inform teacher on student problems;
- Perform cafeteria, hall and bus duties;
- Assist with lunch, snack, clean‑up, lavatory, clothing and wash‑up routines;
- Participate in in‑service training programs as assigned;
- Perform related tasks as required.
- Successful completion of at least 48 semester hours of college from an accredited college or university or a passing score on the Para‑Professional Assessment Exam;
- Possess strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills;
- Possess effective verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to learn to operate and maintain a wide variety of instructional equipment;
- Possess the personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, and parents;
- Possess an interest and ability in working with special education students;
- Dependability and punctuality required.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Work requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Salary: Teacher Assistant Salary Scale;
Full‑Time; $18,196 to $30,171 per year.
